- PERU TREK 2000
CORPORATE
SELFsense
MATTERS Joyce undertook a four day trek to MACHU PICCHU in Peru between the 1 to 14 October. Click www.cancerbacup.org.uk to read about our groups exploits! CancerBACUP is a leading national (UK) charity giving information and support to people with cancer, their families and friends. It has the full backing of patient groups, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals throughout the UK. Over 100,000 individuals a year including patients, their families and friends collectively use this service. In addition 3000 calls each year are received from health professionals who use CancerBACUP as a source of unbiased, accurate information.
CancerBACUP - The charity was launched in
1985 by the late Dr Vicky Clement-Jones, herself a cancer patient, with the
aim of conquering the ignorance and unnecessary distress that surrounds
cancer. The name was changed from
BACUP in 1998. Unlike other
cancer charities, anyone can use CancerBACUP services with no need to be
referred by a health professional.
CancerBACUP’s core business is information provision.
They do this… ·
By telephone. A free phone national helpline (O808 800 1234) is staffed by
experienced cancer nurses, who currently answer over 50,000 enquiries each
year. This service is currently,
hugely over subscribed with approximately only one call in three being
answered first time. ·
Through Publications
.
55 booklets on particular cancers, their treatments and how to live
with cancer have been produced, along with 80 fact sheets giving information
on rare cancers and treatments. ·
On Line. An interactive website – www.cancerbacup.org.uk
containing over 2,000 pages of cancer information (and details of the trek)
which is one of the busiest cancer related websites in the world. ·
Face to face. At CancerBACUP local centres,
mainly based in hospitals, staffed by experienced cancer nurses, offering the full range of
support services. The number of these
centres is currently being rapidly increased. Click Milestone News below for signposts
