  Fundraising

In 1995 - Infected by the idea of raising £2000 for charity by joining a small group of women crossing the Sahara desert by camel lead by a Bedouin.  Much effort was then being ploughed into launching JCC.  INSIGHT:  Acceptance - "the time will come, when all's right for this to happen with ease".

  February 2000 - Inspired by Annie Tunnicliffe and Sharon Naylor, the Alys Band – a group of eight women who came together in February 1997 for our own personal development and to evolve how we can make our joint contribution to society. INSIGHT: "Attending to giving to yourself, in non-needy ways, gives abundance to others"

  February to March - Contemplate hard on which charity to support either the Medical Foundation for refugees who have been victims of torture to Marekesh in September or CancerBACUP to Peru in June, July or October.  INSIGHT:  Acknowledge "both causes were close to my heart because each are in the cause of  self empowerment".   Location and time of year became deciding factors.

  April 2000 – 50^th Birthday invitations sent to family, neighbours, friends and associates;  forfeiting offers of birthday drinks and presents to help me reach my fundraising target of £2,5000 plus.  INSIGHT: "Age is so...... relative.  Feeling an age can be so unrelated to time, biological factors and beliefs"

June 2000 – Party with 146 guests joined me to enjoy live music,  good food, reunite with ole pals, chat-up new folk, and to have a few wri- giggles (new word!).  We created a great atmosphere. Be it for atmosphere or fundraising - Angeles Arien’s Lessons From The Geese offers:  INSIGHT: “People who share a common direction and sense of community, can get where they’re going quicker and easier because they are travelling in the thrust of one another”.

September 2000 - Start training by treadmill walking, wearing leg weights on trips to the local shops and gathering trekking kit.   8 out of16 TrekPeru 2000 group meet at Buxton, Derbyshire for a 'get-to-know you' and a taster of physical trials that await us.  INSIGHT: "Sensing the various ways cancer touched the lives of many in our the group"

October 2000 - Two weeks with group of 16 TrekPeru 2000.  INSIGHT "To observe without judgment - is golden".  

December or When?  Fund raising target £2058 achieved.  The reunion of our "intrepid travellers".  Poor weather conditions and the foot & mouth outbreak  make their impact. "Watch this space!"
